ROLANDO SALGADO PALACIO

Rolando was born on October 22, 1962 in Manzanillo (Cuba),
1971
Drummer in the carnival in Manzanillo. From that time he learned the African and Cuban rhythm with congas.
1978
Joint concerts with Ayacucho, Mocedades, Pablo Milanes, Sierra Maestra / music style Nueva Trova.
1982
First contract with the band Soneros de Manzanillo and then concerts with the big band and saxophonist Lino Borbolla.
1984
Moving from Manzanillo to Havana.
Rolando starts his career with the Timbal together with Niño Rivera.
1986
Started Rolando's playing with the bongo, together with the Chapotín Orchestra under Félix Chapotín.
1986 to 1992
he traveled around Cuba with Ibrahim Ferrer and Los Bocucos and the band Los Chukis.
1993
Cándido Fabré contacted Rolando to participate with him in the festivals of Caribbean music in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia and throughout Europe.
Tumi Music (London) produced 3 CD's after this tour.
1997
Félix Valoy produced a CD with Rolando and Tata Güines.
1998
Juan de Marcos of the band Afro Cuban All Stars signed Rolando as a bongo and conga player to play with him along with Orlando "Cachaito" López, Amadito Valdés, David Alfaro, Barbarito Torres and many more.
1999
Production of 4 CD's with the band Afro Cuban All Stars:

With Afro Cuban All Stars, Rolando played concerts on 5 continents.
2000
Was he present at the opening of the Olympic Games in Sidney.
He gave seminars on Afro Cuban music at universities in Alaska, Ecuador, Canada and México.
Then he taught beginners and professional players for congas, timbal, bongó, guiro, maracas, clave.
2019
Rolando founded the Big Band of Manzanillo. An orchestra consisting of several generations of Manzanillo musicians, including the famous saxophonist Lino Borbolla, drummer Alexis Tamayo "Muñeco", singer Pipo "Gueri" and many more.
Musicians, many of whom were young graduates of the best Cuban music schools.
With a music repertoire from different countries such as Colombia, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Panama and of course Cuba (music style: guarachas, merengue, cumbias and sones).
In May 2019
he gave courses in Slovenia and played with the big band at the University of Ljubljana.
At the end of 2020
released Bobani® Solares y Montunos, Pasaje a lo Desconocido a sensational documentary about the history of Cuban and Afro-Cuban music with a study of different styles and rhythms, many of which are still unknown today.

Jesús was born on October 22, 1966 in Havana, Cuba.
He studied at the Prague Conservatory, Amadeo Roldán and the High Institute of Art.
1984-1990
Jazz Plaza Festivals in Havana.
1988
International competition in Markneukirchen, where he received an accreditation diploma.
1989
Special prize as best soloist at the Karol Kurspinsky International Contest in Poland.
1990
Recognition Award from EGREM in Cuba.
1992-1994
Tour in Germany, Austria, Martinique and Japan as director and saxophonist of the Canela Band.
1995
Tour in Germany, Belgium, Holland and France, where he recorded a CD called "Miss Colibrí" with the band D'Opus.
1996
Tour of the Guadalupe Islands with Dave Holland, Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Paquito D'Rivera.
1997
Formed his quintet Latin Project. Participated in the CD "West Indies" in Martinique. Member of the JoJazz competition, along with Chucho Valdés, Jorge Reyes, Bobby Carcassés, Enrique Pla and Martha Duarte.
1998-2001
Toured the United States, Turkey, Greece, Germany, Italy, Finland and Sweden.
2001
First prize at the Caribbean Song Festival in Barbados with the song "Ale-Ale".
2002
Tour in Africa. First album for the Latin Jazz African Project.
2003
Together with Abdala Estudios, he records a CD with Chucho Valdés and Eddy Gsteff. Tour in Senegal with the Opus Band. Sosua Jazz Festival together with Chucho Valdés, Chichi Peralta and Arturo Sandoval.
2004
Cayman Islands Jazz Festival and Lamentin International Clarinet Festival in Martinique.
2005
Together with director Bernard Rubenstein, he participates with the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba in the work Remembering Gatsby by J. Harbison. Participates in the production of the CD "Los Papines Siguen OK", nominated for the Latin Grammy.
2006-2007
Tour to the Caribbean and Europe, together with Miriam Makeba, Alfredo De La Fe, Chucho Valdés and Joe Sample.
2007
El Fumador event in Dakar.
2008
Concert with Alfredo de la Fe and the Brass Band Manik of the martiniquan musician Jerry Spartacus.

Arranger and actor for plays in Copenhagen and in the Canadian film "Cuban Fire".

Our biggest challenge
We will always offer our collaboration and support to all musicians who wish to preserve and show their roots, even if they merge with other types of genres, styles or rhythms, as long as their origins are not lost.
